The Institute for Healthcare Advancement (IHA) is pleased to announce its upcoming conference: Clinical and Educational Solutions to Low Health Literacy, on May 13th and 14th at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Anaheim, Calif. The conference is designed for those working in healthcare, education, health literacy, and those with an interest in literacy as it relates to healthcare issues.

Of key interest will be a presentation given by Rima E. Rudd, Sc.D., lecturer from the Harvard School of Public Health and a member of the Institute of Medicine's (IOM) Board on Neuroscience and Behavioral Health Committee on Health Literacy. Dr. Rudd will present the much-awaited findings from an IoM report to be released this spring on the subject. 

Other featured speakers include:
* Dean Schillinger, M.D., General Medical Clinic, San Francisco General Hospital 
* Ariella D. Hermann, Ph.D., the Anderson School at UCLA
* Linda Shohet, Ph.D., The Centre for Literacy, Montreal
* Darren DeWalt, M.D., University of North Carolina
* Cheryl Woodson, M.D., Woodson Center for Adult Education 
* Stephen Liss, J.D., Health Literacy Project/Health Promotion Council
In addition, accreditation options, including credits for pharmacists, dentists, nurses, physicians, dietitians, and health educators will be offered. Additionally, each attendee will receive a free copy of the AMA Foundation's kit, "Helping Your Patients Understand," and a free copy of each book in IHA's award-winning "What To Do For Health" series.

Also, IHA invites you to nominate yourself or a colleague by April 9th to be recognized for efforts that have advanced healthcare delivery through improved health literacy.  please note that the deadline for submitting nominations for IHA's Health Literacy Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Health Literacy is fast approaching. The winner of each award will receive a $500 cash award, recognition at the IHA Awards Luncheon, free tuition to the conference (or tuition-reimbursement if already registered to attend conference) and room and board.
