Or is it already out? I think many of us will want copies of that. Thanks. > Thanks for asking, Linda. It’s not out yet, but will be available in 2005. I will post an announcement to the NIFL health listserv as soon as I have a definite release date. Here’s some background for others on the listserv: The original guide I did for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in 1999 was titled Writing & Designing Print Materials for Beneficiaries: A Guide for State Medicaid Agencies. The second edition of this Writing & Designing Guide will be a two volume set. One volume is the updated and expanded edition of the Writing & Designing Guide, with detailed guidelines for writing, design, and language translation. The other is a book of methods for testing draft versions of written materials, written in a friendly and non-technical style for people without a research background. These are both big books with lots of examples. They maintain the original guide’s reader-centered approach that stresses cultural appropriateness, the needs of less-skilled readers, and the integration of writing and design. The scope has expanded to include Medicare and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) as well as Medicaid. Many of you on the list have contributed to my work on these books, and I am very grateful for your wonderful help and enthusiastic support. I am in the final stage of writing and editing both books. Since I’m still working on a few topics, some of you who have shared examples and ideas on these topics will be hearing from me soon. If any others on the list have good examples to share or suggestions for good resources I might include in my annotated bibliographies at the end of each chapter, there’s still a little time left to do this. Thanks to all for your help! Jeanne McGee McGee & Evers Consulting, Inc. 1924 NW 111th Street, Vancouver WA 98685 360 574-4744
