The goals of the theme issue are to 1) highlight state of the art research & education related to the role of literacy in healthcare, 2) respond to the priority areas outlined in the IOM report, Health Literacy: A Prescription to End Confusion, & 3) provide insight for clinicians, educators, researchers, administrators, & policy makers. 6 types of submissions will be considered: 1. Original Articles: 3000 words limit describing original research, with frugal use of tables & figures, & a structured abstract of no more than 250 words. These should be either traditional or systematic reviews or meta-analyses of important topics related to health literacy. 6. Recommendations / Guidelines: No longer than 3000 words.
