The clients in TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) Programs around the country are being screened for learning disabilities in some states and the movement toward screening is gaining momentum. The purpose of the screening is to determine if the client should be referred to another agency for a full diagnostic workup for learning disabilities. Then, if LD is diagnosed, this makes the client eligible for accommodations in any training or education program that may be deemed needed if the client is to move from social services into the workforce. Who, in your state, is training the trainers and adult education teachers to understand and use accommodations in the training or teaching classroom, and who is providing training to employers about how to implement the legal accommodations which are required?
