Hi--I don't want to change the subject or anything, but I have a =
decision to make and would like any input that you have to give. I am =
an adult literacy/basic instructor in South Carolina. I have been =
having very good success with many of my students, but I have some =
students that have been literacy programs for years who just don't seem =
to make any progress. We do not do any formal assessment with these =
students other than the TABE test and I do not have access to their =
previous school records. I am convinced that many of them are highly =
dyslexic or have other visual processing problems--because they seem so =
capable in other areas of their lives. I went to school over fifteen =
years ago and have absolutely no instruction in how to teach dyslexic =
students. I would love to get more training and was thinking of going =
to an Orton Gillingham training that is being held at a Montessori =
school in Savannah, Georgia at my own expense--and the expense is =
considerable. It would be worth it to me if I could help my dyslexics =
learn to read using these methods presented in this workshop. My =
question is--do any of you out there use this method? If so, is it =
applicable to my situation? Does anyone else out there know of any =
other methods that are available for use with literacy instruction or of =
any other training that would help me in this way?
