That would be my number one choice too. Also, talk to someone at the Center on Disabilities, California State University, Northridge, 818-885-2578. Their big annual international conference, called "Technology and Persons with Disabilities," is being held March 19-24 at the airport Marriott and Hilton in Los Angeles. Check out the CAST web site, www.cast.org, to see some of their software. They approach things from a universal design perspective. They also have a couple of items especially designed with people with LD in mind. Arkenstone has the WYNN software that was also designed for people with disabilities. It would also good as a general literacy tool, I think. See their stuff at http://www.wynn.arkenstone.org/ And, finally, go the http://www.kurzweiledu.com/ to see their line of products. Hope this helps! Audrey >>> jcrawford@nifl.gov 02/27/01 05:29 AM >>> For Marie who is looking for up-to-date information about assistive technology: We are having Dr. Marshall Raskind, Director of Research at the Frostig Center in Pasadena, as the key speaker in the assistive technology area at the Bridges to Practice Symposium. You may want to contact him. His number is 626-791-1255. He does research with youngsters and adults and he has a lab coordinator who does demonstrations, and they work with this everyday. The brochure that you have is old, but there are still lots of good (and inexpensive!) ideas in it. We have loads of them if you want more. Just let me know and I will send some. Best wishes for a successful session. I have a pamphlet Assistive Technology: Meeting the needs of adults with Learning Disabilities by Adrienne Riviere, but since it is quite old now with respect to advances in technology. I was looking for some newer information. Thanks, Marie Marie Doerner, Learning Disability Specialist San Diego Community College District Continuing Education (619) 584-6983
