Jaleh et al,

I looked at a couple of the articles on dyslexia listed in News Flashes. Unfortunately, quite a bit of the information contained in these articles is controversial, at least insofar as they pertain to dyslexia. Many of our researchers on this subject in the U.S. are at best skeptical of colored lenses and some of the other interventions discussed. To see some reports on U.S. research, especially from some of the studies funded by NIH, go to http://www.ldonline.org/ld_indepth/reading/reading.html

In talking to Reid Lyon of NIH and Sally Shaywitz of Yale, among others, I've become convinced that the stringent research methods that are being used in the NIH-funded projects is yielding information that stands up to rigorous questions and practical, objective testing. Not all research is up to such standards and not all results are robust when subjected to close scrutiny.

At very least, whether we agree or not, we should all realize that this is still a very new area of real scientific inquiry. We need to evaluate everything we read as carefully as we can, not just take it at face value. With time, we'll learn what really works.

Let's give some equal time to US research on LINCS!

Thanks,
Audrey
