I always wished that I could have received an award, but I never did. I watched year after year knowing I would never be called up to receive an award. After hearing about the Humiliating Awards I can feel good that I'm not in their school today, because I would have been one of those who would have received one of their awards. I can think of many of the heartbreaks I had and being left out of things in school because of my LD, because I was a poor reader, because I was a poor speller. What the Humiliating Awards school did to those LD students will always be inside of those students for the rest of their lives. This happens because there are not enough LD people who have made it in life, have not stood up for our young LD students. We need to encourage LD people to stand up for themselves and others. It will be very interesting to see what will be done or said about this by the people in public office who ran for office saying we will not leave one child behind. It seems to me that this must be classified as some kind of abuse and that someone should have to answer for it.
