Check out WYNN, a software program that helps with reading, writing,
studying, and comprehending. WYNN is ideal for students who have been
identified as having learning disabilities, as well as those students who
have not been identified or prefer not to be identified, yet struggle with
reading and writing (a fair percentage of students who utilize Academic
Development Center services). WYNN's approach to individual learning styles
and study strategies are particularily relevant in a developmental education
environment.

In my job as "academic development specialist," the Academic Development
Center at my community college is getting a computer lab to the tune of 16
PC computers.

The Academic Development Unit's job is to improve the lot of students who
are in "developmental" classes -- the remedial skills classes to prep
students for 101 whether it's math or English. My job is speficially to
work with students on the academics, as a learnign disabiltiies specialist,
with students with documented LDs or "patterns of learning problems." In
other words, they don't need the paperwork to see me :) My background is in
LDs and instructional technology (and before that, WIldife/Fisheries) -- so
I get to make the wish list for making the lab user-friendly and accessible.
I've got ideas of my own and I'll be checking out educational and assistive
stuff... but I'd love input *both* about what to put on the wish list, and
logistical issues. I *hope* that the department/college has policies and
what have you for maintaining computer labs (they're all over campus) but I
don't like surprises like that ;)

Any ideas?
