Also, when trying to come up with stratagies to teach a particular child, knowing the label can help because then you can try what you have done in the past with other people who have the same label. As for using it as an excuse, that just pisses me off. The only point of acknowledging a problem and giving it label is for the purpose of helping the child get around it. Not having done the homework is not an example of why the child has ADHD, rather it is an example of how the child has not been helped to overcome their natural difficulties. It can be done. Hell, I have all the books and notebooks for all my classes in my bookbag at all times. It's the only way I never forget anything. And it's not only the kids with ADHD who have problems with their memories and organization. Just because the child has ADHD doesn't mean they should be able to use it as a copout. ADHD can be lived with. Hell, they'll have to learn with it. No one is going to accept "I didn't finish this project because of my ADHD." as an excuse. They'll get fired.
