I have to say right now that I personally think there are a
lot of advantages to having ADHD. Ok, I have to say right
now that I have ADHD. I wasn't going to bring it up for
fear of tainting how you heard me, but if I'm going to
argue for the advantages I kind of have to. Now that
that's out of the way, the largest advantage that I have
directly BECAUSE of my lack of attention is that I notice
things that no one else notices. I'm always the one
pointing out the bizarre little piece that everyone else
just skipped over. (Now, that's also a problem when it
comes to trying to look at something that is too visually
stimulating. For instance, I have to cover any pictures
that are on the page if I want to read it or else I just
look at the picture instead of reading the sentences.)
Another thing that is an advantage is that I can keep up
with young children. (Great that that's who I choose to
work with isn't it?) I can actually keep up with your
average kindergartener, no problem. Sorry, those are the
only two that are coming to me at the moment, but,
personally, I don't know what I would do if I DIDN'T have
ADHD.

Good for you, Michelle. My eldest daughter probably could have been labeled
ADHD, but she used her energy in a positive way and today owns a business,
teaches aerobics three or more times a week, has a two yr old son and a
wonderful husband....gardens, reads, goes on vacations, church.....and the
list goes on. If we could tap her energy, we'd never have to worry about a
fuel shortage!! Cheers to all the ADHDs who have turned a possible lemon
into lemonade!!

Ellie
