Your post reminded me that a couple of years a go I was extremely blunt to you in an email--rude--and I apologize again. Yes, the match of sound to symbol is crucial--some have a hard time, they must rely on visual recall. There are 2 routes to reading, the auditory and the visual; in the best of all worlds they mix in the left temporal lobe, behind and above the left ear. You probably know all this, it sounds like you have really focused not just on mastering skills but on mastering the reasons behind the problems of dyslexia, to begin with. Thanks for writing.
