Hello all,

I have John Corcoran's book, "The Teacher Who Could Not Read" and heard him
speak several times. He is going to be a keynote speaker at the Florida
Literacy Coalition's annual conference in Orlando, Florida on May 11-13. The
conference has a strand for adult learners which makes the choice of Corcoran as
a speaker that much more appealing for attendees. What is so satisfying to
me is knowing that our literacy groups realize the significant relationship
between illiteracy and learning disabilities. The more we are able to emphasize
this connection, the more effective we will be in giving stakeholders the
tools they need to become informed, providing professional staff development to
tutors/teachers, and giving literacy providers effective research-based
strategies to serve adults with learning disabilities and dyslexia,.

Colleagues,

I have just purchased and had sent to me Don McCabe's book, "To Teach a
Dyslexic." I didn't have time to more than skim it during my lunch break,
but...did you know he was dyslexic? He has appeared on the list serv before, he
isn't paying me to pump his book, but golly, I don't know of anyone else except
John Corcoran (The Teacher who Couldn't Read) to write a book on reading
from the dyslexic's point of view. Had to mention it. Don is or maybe was,
also a teacher.

By the way, I use 2nd hand book URL's all the time: bookfinder.com,
addall.com used.addall.com. I have found some real bargains.

Andrea
