Lauren,

I'd like to suggest the DAR, Diagnostic Assessment of Reading, published by
Riverside Publishing Company. which can be administered to students of all
ages with reading levels that correspond to the beginning of grade 1
through the end of high school. Testing should take approx 30 minutes- It
will provide information about the individuals achievement in reading and
reading-related areas. The 6 subtests are: Word Recognition, Word Analysis,
Oral Reading, Silent Reading Comprehension, Spelling and Word Meaning. All
of the tests do not have to be given in one session. The DAR are designed
to be used by classroom teachers, reading specialists, special ed teachers,
psychologists and others who want to help students read better- No special
training or instructions beyond the manual are needed. The Teacher's
Manual-Part 2 & Part 3 addresses Trail Teaching Strategies and Preparing for
Teaching.
