There are a number of screenreaders that accommodate adult readers.  These
programs allow to readers to focus on comprehension instead of encoding.
For students it allows them to interact with the text in more efficient
ways.  

For example, WYNN, which I use, allows the user to read and focus on
comprehension.  This let's adults with reading difficulties to experience
more independence.  They are able to scan documents which they can then read
and even fill out with accommodations using the program.  Many libraries are
investing in programs like these making them accessible to people who may
not have the means to purchase these technologies.  Additionally, there are
some community resources such as Dept. or Rehab which might purchase these
technologies for clients.
