Susan,

Sorry for the delay in responding to your question. I have been in hotels
and unable to get Internet connections.

The upcoming schedule for our Assistive Technology guest speaker, Dr.
Christopher Lee, is set for Sept. 19-23rd. Dr. Lee will soon advise me of topics
that he will address during that week. We have not specified the guidelines for
this week as yet. They will relate to our assigned discussion list topic of
adults with learning disabilities. Therefore, we will request that all
specific questions to Dr. Lee and the discussion that ensues be focused on Assistive
Technology for adults with learning disabilities.

Since our list members may also have interests in learning disabilities from
the K-12 prospective, I would hope that such members would follow our
discussion, learn from, and enjoy the discussions as they pertain to adults with LD,
but that specific questions and discussion during Dr. Lee's week address only
our target population.

Please feel free to share this with any colleagues, parents, educators,
counselors, or consumers that may be interested in benefiting from Dr. Lee's week
on our list.

Thank you,

Rochelle Kenyon

Would it be okay if I shared this with some of the online LD community -
knowing it would probably result in some parents of K-12 LD children bringing that
angle? I'd understand if you wanted to keep things NIFL :-)

Hello all,

As promised, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Christopher Lee has
graciously accepted my invitation to be a guest "speaker" on the topic of
Assistive
Technology and Learning Disabilities. We have set aside the week of Sept.
19-23rd for this purpose. We will post 5 topics well in advance of this
week.
Once the topics are posted to the list, we will request specific questions
that
you may have concerning each topic. I will forward those questions to Dr.
Lee who will then address them - one topic per day from Sept. 19 through
Sept.
23.

If any of you have other suggestions, Dr. Lee and I would be happy to hear
them.

I will send out at least one more reminder after the general topics have
been posted in the next few days.

I am including Dr. Lee's bio for your information below.

Christopher M. Lee has a Ph.D. in Psychology and is a recognized advocate,
author, speaker, and leader in the field of learning disabilities and
adaptive
technology.

In 1992, he published Faking It: A Look into the Mind of a Creative Learner,
and in 2001, What About Me? Strategies for Teaching Misunderstood Learners
(Portsmouth NH: Heinemann, Boynton and Cook). These books draw on
Christopher'
s developmental experiences and his challenges attending the University of
Georgia (UGA) to help teachers and parents optimize learning disabled
students'
performance.

Christopher has published a one of a kind on-line guide, Learning
Disabilities and Technology, an Emerging Way to Touch the Future. He has
published
articles, chapters and several journals, and has been selected to chair many
collaborative projects that relate to disability issues.

Christopher is a member of the Heinemann Speakers Bureau for nationwide
speaking engagements. He has spoken to numerous groups about topics including

self-advocacy, living with learning disabilities and assistive technology for

learning disabilities. He has been featured on CNN, National Public Radio and
in
newspaper articles picked up by the Associated Press. In 2003, The National
Rehabilitation Association awarded the W.F. Faulkes Award to Christopher for
his contributions to the increase of knowledge in the fields of
rehabilitation

In 2003, Christopher was highlighted in a Microsoft video and publication,
Microsoft Accessible Technology for Everyone
(_http://www.microsoft.com/enable/casestudy/videos.aspx_
(http://www.microsoft.com/enable/casestudy/videos.aspx)
).

In October 2004, Christopher was recognized by the Atlanta Business
Chronicle as one of fifty of Atlanta's most promising young stars.

He served as Director of Georgia's Assistive Technology Project: Tools for
Life, a project operated under the aegis of the Department of Labor, Division
of Rehabilitation Services/Vocational Rehabilitation.

Christopher has served as Executive Director of the Learning Disabilities
Association of Georgia and President to both this organization and the
Atlanta
chapter of the Learning Disabilities Adults of Georgia.

Currently he services as Director of the Alternative Media Access Center
(_www.amac.uga.edu_ (http://www.amac.uga.edu) ) house at the University of
Georgia, Department of Psychology.
