Many sessions highlight specific products - but sometimes they're products that our school has, and we're not using them at anything like their best capacity. (Peoples' connection to products are also clearly stated in many session descriptions, so I assume this is a standard.) The whole shooting match is sponsored by Don Johnston, the guy who's company has been making special needs technology stuff since back when you could *only* get educational software for those Apple IIE's (Windows? What's Windows? DOS...)

For me, an important issue is finding sessions that are done by people in the trenches, not simply extolling the potentials of a product, but exploring actual experience and potholes in the road to progress. I also like the theoretical stuff :)

 There are many sessions about
The following at least piqued my interest; the whole program is online, but I had 'em mail me one (two came) (http://www.trld.com)

AT and UDL: Letters from the Same Alphabet - the intersection of Assistive Technology and Universal Design. Skip Stahl and Joy Zabala.

Promising Practices and Educational Technology: Using the NCTI and LDOnLine Matrices. (reviews of assorted technology for instruction of reading & math for struggling students).

Mastering Microsoft Word: Can it do More? Scott Marfilius .

Writing by Dictation: Speech Recognition THroughout the Writing PRocess

SOLO: Redefining Differentiated INstruction. (Product plug - but an interesting one. From their site: "SOLO combines all of Don Johnston's proven, industry-standard interventions - Co:Writer®, Write:OutLoud®, Draft:Builder® - and introduces Read:OutLoud*. Additionally, SOLO provides a hub, Teacher Central, where educators can quickly and easily provide differentiated assignments, oversee skill development and analyze student progress. ")

"Understanding the Science of Learning, Technology and LIteracy" (pre-conference session, extra bucks): Ted Hasselbring "...will provide specific examples wehre the 'Science of Learning' has been merged with technology to create applications that have had significant impact on learning. He will conclude w/ a discussion of what we need to do to continue to develop technology applications that are effective well into the future."

"Textbooks, the Students who Can't Read Them, and What to Do About It" David Edyburn. (more K-12 ish,but...)

"Reading on the Web: Supportive Texts for Struggling Readers" Lynne Anderson-Inman. Learn how to find, evaluate and use web-based reading materials with supportive resources embedded and linked to the text. Workshop participants will learn to identify nine types of supportive resources and evaluate web-based reading materials for use with struggling students at all levels. Hands-on, interactive, superb examples in all content areas.

Learning STilyes and ONline Delivery STrategies on Students' Learning - Li-Ling Chen (investigate effects of various online learning formats and the students' field dependence/independency on developing Web projects.)

Hi Susan,

After the conference, will you please post some adult LD-related session
titles and speakers' names from the conference program? That will give those of
us that don't attend a glimpse into its relevance as a possible conference to
attend next year.

Thank you,
