The theme of the conference this year is "Achieving Social Justice in Education." I am hoping that proposals will include some presentations which focus on adult education. (Note that I have NOTHING to do with the selection of proposals. I just think it is time to include adult education when we think of education.) Please have a look at the website for this conference at <web.utk.edu/~seaes> to see if you might be interested. The deadline to submit proposals is December 11, 2000. The SEAES was created six years ago as a regional forum for the promotion and dissemination of research in the areas of sociology, anthropology, history and philosophy of education. Following five successful meetings in North Carolina(three years),Alabama, and Virginia, SEAES 2001 will take place in Knoxville, Tennessee beginning Friday, March 9 and concluding Sunday, March 11. In keeping with the theme of the conference, we especially encourage proposals that focus on service learning and/or action research projects; however, we would welcome proposals on a wide variety of educational topics including, but not limited to: multiculturalism, antiracist education, standardization in education, and vouchers. Proposals for paper presentations and works in progress are welcome. Individuals who engage in educational studies outside of schools of education are encouraged to attend and participate— elementary and secondary educators are especially welcome. Graduate students are highly encouraged to submit proposals and to attend as this conference provides an excellent and valuable venue to present some of your research interests. ***Deadline to submit: December 11, 2000*** Please check the conference website for submission instructions: web.utk.edu/~seaes
