1. IMMIGRANTS AND WELFARE REFORM

"How Are Immigrants Faring After Welfare Reform?" by Michael E. Fix,
Leighton Ku, Jeffrey S. Passel, Randolph Capps, Chris Furgiuele, Rajeev
Ramchand, Scott McNiven, Dan Perez-Lopez (March 4, 2002) This report
provides findings from a 1999-2000 survey of 3400 immigrant families in Los
Angeles County and New York City, two cities that account for roughly a
quarter of the nation's immigrant population.

2. RECENT CHANGES IN HEALTH POLICY: STATE PROFILES

New state profiles are available for Texas, Massachusetts, Washington, and
Mississippi.

3. Medicaid and SCHIP

"Children's Participation in Medicaid and SCHIP" by Lisa Dubay , Genevieve
M. Kenney , Jennifer M. Haley (March 01, 2002) In this brief, the 1999
National Survey of America's Families is used to examine participation in
both Medicaid and SCHIP-nationally and for 13 states-among children who are
citizens and who do not have private insurance coverage.

"Children's Eligibility for Medicaid and SCHIP: A View from 2000" by Lisa
Dubay , Genevieve M. Kenney, Jennifer M. Haley (March 01, 2002) While the
majority of children eligible for Medicaid and SCHIP participate in these
programs, new Urban Institute data show that nearly 7 million more uninsured
children are eligible and could be enrolled.

4. CHILD SUPPORT AND PRWORA

"Child Support Reforms in PRWORA: Initial Impacts" by Elaine Sorensen, Helen
Oliver (February 01, 2002) This paper assesses whether the child support
reforms enacted in 1996 improved child support outcomes during the initial
years after enacting welfare reform.

5. SOCIAL SECURITY REFORM ABROAD

"Social Security in Nine European Countries: A Portrait of Reform" by
Rudolph G. Penner , C. Eugene Steuerle, Elizabeth Miranda (February 01,
2002) This brief provides an overview of pensions in the European Union and
summarizes the nine participating countries' pension systems, including
recent reforms.
