We've had a discussion about the plantation tour, since withdrawn, and the sensibilities that offended. I was reading about the sanctions imposed by the NAACP vis-a-vis the confederate flag. (See the link below.) My concern and question is, will there be groups boycotting COABE because of this? How will COABE deal with this issue, evidently so dear (and understandably so) to the hearts and principles of so many people. Does anybody know if people are considering not going to COABE because of this issue? Not attending or boycotting COABE would be tantamount to punishing an organisation. That would be unfair. And yet, we cannot afford to be ostrichlike and pretend it is not happening, becaue the announcement I saw is dated March 1st. I see this as the perfect opportunity for COABE to turn this into THE venue for discussion and a return if you will to grassroots social action. Perhaps the time has come for adult education to renew it's acquaintance with social change and equity? What a great opportunity for COABE and its' members to get involved with local affairs and rethink our own roles as educators. http://www.naacp.org/news/releases/scborderpatrol03402.shtml regards Ujwala Samant __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
