I am writing to tell you about the Very Best In Youth program sponsored by
Nestlé and Reading Is Fundamental (RIF). This innovative program honors the
achievements of young people between 9 and 18 who are readers, recognize the
importance of reading in their lives and work hard to improve their
communities.

>From the many applications submitted, 30 young people will be selected by a
panel of educators and business leaders to be honored by this program. The
honorees will be featured in an official awards publication, receive an
all-expense-paid trip to Los Angeles for an awards ceremony in July, 2003,
and $1,000 to be donated to the charity of their choice.

For a copy of this year's Nestlé Very Best In Youth program application,
please visit our website at
http://www.rif.org/news/events/vbiy2003.html. You are encouraged to
photocopy the application and provide copies of
it to qualified young people or to other organizations. The young people
complete their own entry form. Please note the deadline for submission of
applications is November 29, 2002. For more information, please contact
Connie Jameson at cjameson@rif.org or by phone at 202-673-1506.

I ask that you encourage outstanding young people to submit an application
and that you help spread the word about this wonderful opportunity to
celebrate the accomplishments of young people in communities across the
country.

Happy Reading!
