Salary range is $28,164 to $64,944, depending on experience and qualifications. Equal Opportunity Specialists investigate complaints, conduct compliance reviews and provide technical assistance and outreach to health and human services institutions, agencies or organizations which are recipients of Federal financial assistance provided by the Department of Health and Human Services. They ensure compliance with civil rights laws and the privacy of protected health information. Assignments would involve the investigation of possible race, color, national origin, disability, age or sex discrimination under various legal authorities and privacy of health information issues. Applicants should show strong analytical skills and the ability to work both independently and as a part of a team. Excellent speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills are also required as investigators prepare investigative plans, reports and letters of findings for cases under his/her personal responsibility and interview recipients, spokespersons, employees and others to obtain relevant evidence. They also provides technical assistance to recipients and other interested parties to educate them as to the requirements of the various laws that this office enforces. Bilingual ability is a plus, but not required.
