Thanks! -Mary Ann Corley NIFL-Povracelit List Moderator * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * The Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) Rural Poverty Research Center is offering up to 3 fellowships for the 2003-2004 academic year to support PhD dissertation research addressing the causes and impacts of poverty in rural areas of the United States or the policy options that might reduce poverty or its negative impacts. We encourage applications from any academic discipline (sociology, economics, political science, geography, developmental psychology, for example) that can provide insight into rural poverty issues. The fellowship is intended to be the principal source of support for PhD candidates during the writing of the dissertation. The fellowship carries a stipend of $20,000 for a 12-month period. The application deadline is Friday, March 21, 2003. Funded by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, as many as five grants of up to $20,000 each will be made in 2003 to encourage the use of the National Survey of America's Families (NSAF). An initiative of the Urban Institute, the NSAF is an important data resource for research on issues related to poverty, welfare, health care, economic development, and social and family policy.
