The New York City-based Rockefeller Foundation http://www.rockfound.org/ has
announced a new
grantmaking collaborative that will focus on a range of civil rights issues
faced by minorities and immigrants
in the United States.

The Racial Justice Collaborative will award grants to organizations that
bring lawyers and community groups
together to address the economic and social disparities faced by minority
groups and immigrants, paying special
attention to education, voting rights, environmental and land-use policies,
access to welfare benefits, and labor
rights [Note that education is one of the areas that is addressed]. The
collaborative expects to award $2 million
annually over the next three years to national and community-based
organizations, with the first grants --
ranging from $50,000 to $100,000 -- coming as early as this fall.

"This unique collaborative will bring the resources of some of the
preeminent foundations to communities that are
struggling for opportunity and justice," said Berta Colon, program officer
for the Racial Justice Collaborative. "By
fostering greater partnerships between lawyers and community groups, we hope
to expand the available tools
to address long-standing barriers."

"Leading Foundations Collaborate to Support Innovative Civil Rights Work."
