A literacy-teacher friend of mine has asked me to see whether the
members of NIFL-PovRaceLit can help him locate reading-materials (for
students and for his fellow teachers) that cover the following
multicultural topics:

/1/ the influences of so-called "minority" cultures (Hispanic,
African-American, Native American, Asian, Pacific Islander, etc.) on
so-called "mainstream" USA culture over the past several centuries
(things or ideas that so-called "mainstream" USA learned about or
adapted/adopted from so-called "minority" cultures - how has so-called
"mainstream" USA culture changed over the centuries because of the
technologies, material items, and concepts produced and cherished by
the so-called "minority" cultures in the same geographical area?)

and

/2/ the influences of so-called "mainstream" USA culture on so-called
"minority" cultures over the past several centuries (things or ideas
that so-called "minority" cultures" learned about or adapted/adopted
from so-called "mainstream" USA culture - how have so-called "minority"
cultures in the USA changed over the centuries because of the
technologies, material items, and concepts produced and cherished by
the so-called "mainstream" culture?)

The teacher seeks information on both /1/ and /2/, at a variety of
reading-levels, and therefore wants a variety of diverse sources
including primary sources if possible. What can you recommend to meet
these needs?
