I started this when I took a course in mental retardation, and talking with parents at home was the only way to understand the child's context, the parents' values, what to do next, and so on. Plus, I was the guest, the parents were in control. I did this on a research study, volunteered for the visits, came out great. Did it in Pakistan when I lived there. Recommend it when possible.
