Hi folks -
I'm happy to have joined onto this list, which several friends and
colleages encouraged me to do. By way of brief introduction, I work for a
national nonprofit, the Community Technology Centers' Network, whose
mission is to help bring technology and technology training to those who
otherwise would not have access to it.
Between 1994 and 1996 I helped to set up the Computer Assisted Literacy
Center of DC (CALICO-DC), a free-to-use computer lab for adult learners,
housed in the MLK public library in downtown Washington DC. While at this
job I set up a web page for CALICO-DC which includes some inspiring adult
learner writings, and some downloadable multimedia Macintosh freeware that
we made at CALICO-DC. http://members.aol.com/calicodc/ This "stack"
about civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer was created by Stephon Gray, a
co-worker and adult learner himself. We used a real inexpensive shareware
Mac multimedia program, SimpleCard, for this project. For those who might
be interested, further info on SimpleCard can be found at the SimpleCard
Fan Club Web Page. http://www.his.com/pshapiro/simplecardfanclub/
I'm real interested in the use of technology in all aspects of
community development, and take joy in learning from the experiences and
wisdom of others.
Hope I can make some useful contributions to this list.
Cheers,
- Phil
