Dear subscribers,

I am working with a film producer who is developing a series on the impact
of technology on employment. The program has identified some experts on
technology and work as well as some students who either have learned
computer skills leading to high-paying jobs or who do not have the skills
and are working in low-paying jobs. The producer is interested in finding
additional situations to illustrate the "techno-gap" and its effect on
employment AND additional experts concerning the impact of technology on
work. This program will focus on youth (high school and/or traditional
postsecondary aged young adults) rather than adults; however, I'm hoping
you can help.

If you have suggestions for either locations/programs or experts, please
contact me privately. My snail mail and email addresses are part of my
signature.

Here is the producer's original message to me:

>I wanted to ask if you can
>suggest any especially interesting or dramatic stories or school-to-work
>situations (especially in N.Y., D.C., Boston, Austin or the Bay Area) that
>link newly-acquired technological skills with youthful employment or
>internships. Because of our program's focus on youth and work (as opposed to
>education, race or gender--the other three programs), we would like to
>sharpen our focus on stories that link the bridging of the techno-gap between
>the "haves" and "have-nots" with the skills needed for employment and the
>workforce. Also, we welcome your recommendations for scholars who are
>particularly knowledgeable about the impact of technology on work.
