Dear Peggy,
I have for years shared your annoyance with the attachment of the word
"literacy" to information, computer--and more recently, economic. Not only is
it a wild stretch in meaning but it dilutes the word when used for its proper
purposes. Alas, I guess the only recourse we have is to be annoyed and to
celebrate at every opportunity those who are more conscious of word meaning
and the weight of a word. Here's to you-- Gail Spangenberg
