I have just finished developing a survey that was sent out to adult literacy
programs in New York City last week. The survey is an adaptation of the Chris
Hopey survey and includes open-ended questions that explore some of the issues
around technology and literacy in greater depth.

This survey is the first phase of a research study being conducted by the
Literacy Assistance Center for the New York City Mayor's Office of Adult
Literacy and the New York State Education Department. The goals of this
research project include documenting ways that programs are using
instructional technology; providing an overview of current technology use,
developing recommendations for future development and implementation; and
gathering information for a resource book of innovative practices.

We have developed two additional surveys for this study: one for teachers and
one for students. The data collection will continue throughout the spring.
We hope to present our findings in May or June.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about our study.
I'll also keep this list up-to-date on our progress.
