In answer to my questions, A+LS could be good for very beginning readers who
need to go very slowly, and/or for programs whose students work in many
subject areas such as science and math. You can purchase subject areas and
levels separately. Their website is http://www.amered.com. COREL Read has
a double vowel in lesson 2, so I didn't pursue it, but it does have a fun
mystery-game factor.

At a conference last weekend, I found out about a website and contacts that
may be helpful regarding assistive technology:

Subject: [NIFL-TECHNOLOGY:788] A+dvanced Learning System and Corel READ

Dear Readers:
I have just received a demo copy of A+dvanced Learning System and will soon
be receiving one of Corel READ. As I evaluate, I'm wondering if anyone else
out there has experience with this software they would like to share with
me. ALS looks very sequential, and it's nice not to have to purchase the
whole entire package, but to have the option of purchasing the subject area
and levels that you want. If you reply to me, I will post a summary of the
responses I receive, in order to avoid many "me too" responses on the
listserv.
Thank you!
