To all those who presented and/or participated at ALT, congratulations and welcome back! Although I was only able to be at the conference for the first day, I was struck by the high turn out and the variety and depth of the presentations. The enthusiasm and energy that was evident among participants and presenters was contagious (even among those of us that had to board trains and planes before dawn that morning). The only challenge I encountered was figuring out how to have our Technology-List lunch without a lunch room or tables! A small group of us managed to find one another, however, and we had a nice discussion huddled in a corner around the NIFL information table. As soon as my film gets developed, I will post a few pictures of the group so those of you who couldn't make it to ALT (or were there but couldn't find us) can have a few faces to attach to names.

One of the items the tech list lunch group discussed was new strategies for supporting & enhancing dialogue on the list. One suggestion was to have occasional focused discussions on particular topics. This has apparently worked well on other lists. We would set a time period (say two weeks) in which everyone interested in topic "x" would be invited to engage in a dialogue just on that topic. Regular list action would continue concurrently. I am exploring the technical details for setting this up, but expect it to be pretty simple. Please let me know if you would be interested in trying this out sometime and, if so, what are some topics you would like to explore in this way?

I also am interested in collecting suggestions for "guest speakers" on the list. As many of you know, John Fleischman of OTAN was our guest in the Winter and provided us with valuable information & resources (his responses to questions from the list are available in the list archives). Does anyone have any suggestions for a Fall guest?

Thanks.
