NIFL-Technology Colleagues,

I would like to call your attention to a great example of constructivist
learning/instruction which integrates improving reading with
learner-centered activism, and which also uses computer technology well.
It is a beautifully simple, and practical multimedia presentation, a
written and read-out-loud essay by adult new reader, Stefon Gray, about
African American voting activist, Fannie Lou Hamer. Stefon and D.C. area
community technology activist, Phil Shapiro, have made this simple
hypercard stack or PowerPoint presentation available free on the Web. They
also presented it at the Computers in Adult Literacy Conference sponsored
by the Philadelphia Mayor's Commission on Literacy this May.

I had the pleasure of meeting Stefon at the Literacy Summit held after the
Adult Literacy and Technology Conference last week where he was
contributing his thinking toward shaping policy in our field.

You will find the Fannie Lou Hamer Multimedia Presentation at
