Thank you, Eileen. It is nice to know that there are other people who =
can get as excited as me about database design.=20

We are exploring the possibility of disseminating ALIES outside New York =
City. We should some arrangement for doing that in the near future.=20

As Heidi requested, some basic information on ALIES. The Literacy =
Assistance Center manages the Adult Literacy Information and Evaluation =
System (ALIES) for all adult literacy programs in New York City. NYC =
programs use ALIES for reporting and program management needs.=20

It is a stand-alone PC-based system (even though it can be used as a =
client-server system as well) created using Access 97. We will be =
upgrading to Access 2000 in the next month or so.=20

Programs submit data backups to LAC by email or snail mail and we =
provide NY City and State with citywide analyses.=20

ALIES is currently not on sale. It is unlikely that it will ever be. The =
LAC is just not equipped to be a commercial software vendor.=20

But we do want to share the system, either in partnerships with =
agencies, or as shareware. We have not come to a decison internally as =
to which direction we will take. But hopefully in the next two weeks.... =

If you are interested in using ALIES please stay in touch.=20
