Hi Mary,

As a matter of fact, I JUST finished doing this same exercise for our
Learning Support Centres situated in our smaller centres in this region. We
identified five broad areas for which we wanted some basic software:

* general research
* math
* english writing, spelling & grammar
* english for non-native speakers (ESL)
* computer skills

We then located some software products which (it seemed) would support a
broad range of skill levels, from literacy to first-year college level. Our
wish list came to about $1000 (Canadian). If you'd like to see the products
we chose, let me know & I will send you the spreadsheet.

I am a teacher with Vermont Adult Learning, a non-profit adult education
program in seven counties in Vermont. We are in the process of opening
computer labs in many of our learning centers. We are currently
previewing software. Has anyone gone through this already? If so, could
you share with us a list of criteria that has worked well in doing this
job?
