I encourage everyone to read "The Crisis that Isn't" which is in the October 2 issue of Forbes Magazine and is online at: http://www.forbes.com/forbes/2000/1002/6609086a.html The main message of the article is that the existence of a national literacy crisis is a fabrication created by government and other institutions. The author challenges recent literacy statistics from NIFL, the U.S. Department of Education and the National Center for Education Statistics, and suggests that current measures of functional literacy include too broad a spectrum of skills.
