Today -- as the very definition of literacy has expanded to encompass technological "fluency" as well as the ability to access information electronically -- the LAC plays a leadership role in assisting education programs in harnessing technology to achieve their goals. Our professional development activities have a dual focus - building the expertise of literacy educators in using technology as a tool for instruction, management, collaboration and research, and furthering understanding of critical equity and access issues surrounding technology and education. Each year, we provide training and instructional resources to hundreds of literacy practitioners, who in turn serve 20,000 students. Our Instructional Technology Program incorporates on-line professional development opportunities via the LAC web site, www.lacnyc.org. Emerging emphases include Distance Learning and assistive technologies. Qualifications Qualified candidates will possess an exemplary ability to: · further an organization-wide technology vision and plan; · design and facilitate hands-on professional development activities integrating the Internet, multimedia authoring tools, office software suites and educational software; · evaluate current and emerging technologies, assessing their potential as literacy teaching and learning tools; · supervise and coordinate staff, and manage multiple projects simultaneously; and · write and speak effectively about technology with both computer novices and "techies."
