Position Opening

COORDINATOR OF INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY
Literacy Assistance Center New York, NY

The Coordinator of Instructional Technology guides the LAC in helping adult
literacy, after-school and employment training centers thoughtfully
integrate technology throughout their programming. Today -- as the very
definition of literacy has expanded to encompass technological "fluency" as
well as the ability to access information electronically -- the LAC plays a
leadership role in assisting education programs in harnessing technology to
achieve their goals.

Our professional development activities have a dual focus - building the
expertise of literacy educators in using technology as a tool for
instruction, management, collaboration and research, and furthering
understanding of critical equity and access issues surrounding technology
and education. Each year, we provide training and instructional resources
to hundreds of literacy practitioners, who in turn serve 20,000 students.
Our Instructional Technology Program incorporates on-line professional
development opportunities via the LAC web site, www.lacnyc.org. Emerging
emphases include Distance Learning and assistive technologies.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will possess an exemplary ability to:

· further an organization-wide technology vision and plan;
· design and facilitate hands-on professional development activities
integrating the Internet, multimedia authoring tools, office software
suites and educational       software;
· evaluate current and emerging technologies, assessing their potential as
   literacy teaching and learning tools;
· supervise and coordinate staff, and manage multiple projects
simultaneously; and
· write and speak effectively about technology with both computer
   novices and "techies."

About the Literacy Assistance Center

Founded in 1983, the Literacy Assistance Center is the "hub" of training,
resources and information for literacy education in New York. Our mission
is to support and promote the expansion of quality literacy services. Each
year we work with approximately 500 literacy, immigrant resettlement,
workforce development, and after-school programs. Our services ultimately
benefit tens of thousands of literacy students in all five boroughs and
almost every neighborhood of the City, in programs sponsored by the New
York City Adult Literacy Initiative and other public, private and
non-profit institutions. We work closely with the Partnership for
After-School Education and dozens of youth literacy programs around the
City. We are an independent, nonprofit agency with 30 staff members and an
annual budget of  $3.0 million.

Salary commensurate with experience. Excellent Benefits. Send resume and
cover letter to Michael J. Hirschhorn, Executive Director, Literacy
