While I see clearly how teachers facilitate learning, I think there may also be a role on the Web for material that learners can access and use on their own to supplement classes or to fill in while they are waiting for space in an ESL program. So that is what we are trying to create, online instruction that can be enhanced by teachers yet which is not dependent on a scarce commodity. The Web's potential to reach great numbers of learners is hard to overlook. Fran Keenan PBS LiteracyLink fkeenan@pbs.org
