You seem to include multimedia in your definition of digital text. I am used to thinking of multi-media as being a combination of different media (of which text is a part) that allows us as individuals to use more than one sense organ (not just the eyes, but also our ears) to understand information. Do you think that this trend will undermine the skill of making meaning from words the eye sees? Multimedia aside, I feel that there are many benefits to simply having printed text in a digital format; many of the benefits that have been brought out by you, Steve and Emily (i.e. hypertext, instant translations, co-authoring, etc.). You also mentioned that in your opinion, "the reason that computer technologies aren't integrated more into literacy instruction... is because.. the capabilities of digital texts are inherently at odds with traditional notions of literacy, of schooling, of teaching, of learning, etc." Having said all this, do you think that adding multimedia to the definition of digital text, makes more complicated, the process of helping instructors integrate technology into instruction? Thank you.
