Good Models of Teaching with Technology (GMOTT) Spotlighted on The Knowledge Loom The Knowledge Loom (http://knowledgeloom.org) has just launched a spotlight on Good Models of Teaching with Technology (GMOTT). The content in this new spotlight is provided by the Northeast and Islands Regional Technology in Education Consortium (NEIRTEC) and is drawn from face-to-face and online workshops developed by EDC and TERC, which are offered in the northeast region. Now, a national audience can have access to these best practices, success stories, policy links, and interactive tools to get the conversation going in their own schools and districts. It is a perfect tool for ongoing, job-embedded professional development and for planning school improvement initiatives. Stories about schools who have put these practices into action have been provided by various organizations, including two other regional laboratories, NWREL and NCREL. Investigate this valuable resource at http://knowledgeloom.org/gmott. Join in an online panel discussion Oct. 15-Nov. 15 with practicing educators and staff developers who have successfully integrated technology into their work. The panel provides an interesting example of how professional learning can be supported by technology. The Knowledge Loom is an award-winning on-line professional development resource from the Education Alliance and the Northeast & Islands Regional Educational Laboratory at Brown University (LAB), which was developed with seed money for the U.S. Department of Education. It provides visitors with opportunities to discuss educational practice locally and with experts as they read about successful schools and evidence-based best practices and as they explore supporting Web links. In addition to GMOTT, other spotlights include technology leadership provided by the Appalachia Educational Laboratory (AEL), middle school math from Eisenhower National Clearing House (ENC), teaching culturally diverse learners from the New England Equity Assistance Center (EAC), early literacy from the LAB and National Institute for Literacy (NIFL), professional development, home-school-community partnerships, and more. In late November, The Knowledge Loom will offer a companion professional development guidebook that provides collaborative inquiry activities and worksheets to guide cohorts of educators through using self-selected Knowledge Loom content for decision-making and bench-marking at their sites. The guidebook will be available online at http://knowledgeloom.org. -- /\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\ Laureen Cervone Information Center Specialist The LAB at Brown University 222 Richmond Street, Suite 300 Providence, RI 02903-4226 Renie_Cervone@brown.edu Web http://www.lab.brown.edu tel 401-274-9548 ext 280 fax 401-421-7650
