I remember the last time this particular hoax surfaced and thousands of
people were having to repair their operating system after having deleted
that file. My purpose was to alert those who had not yet made the deletion.
I looked at my posting again and can not find any reference to persons who
were taken in by this hoax.

At some point in all our journeys on the Internet we all have fallen for
one or more of these things. What is most important is to learn from them.
The thing I have learned is that having a good anti-virus program, such as
Norton, an making sure that it is updated regularly at least every two
weeks by connecting to the Norton website and downloading the current virus
profiles, is the best protection. The second thing is that all chain emails
are suspect, whether they are about virus threats or not. A non-virus urban
myth that is again making the rounds is about a bill in Congress that is
going to put a surcharge on email messages. I always go to either the
website I quoted on my last email for viruses or to <
http://urbanlegends.about.com > for non-virus hoax info before I either
believe or act. The third thing I've learned from years of this is that
these chain emails are a major contributor to the slowing down of the net.
Start doing the math. If each one of us on this list sent a chain letter to
one more list, etc., etc. In a matter of minutes this is millions of
emails. Since very few people take the time to remove all the routing info
and previous messages from such emails before they hit the forward button,
each generation of the letter gets longer and longer. That is a huge taxing
of the bandwidth of the net.
