X-Listprocessor-Version: 6.0c -- ListProcessor by Anastasios Kotsikonas X-Mailer: AOL 5.0 for Windows sub 138 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Status: O Content-Length: 2046 Lines: 46 Hello Technology Practitioners, I am Arlene Cianelli, Technology Coordinator at Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council. I am doing some research this spring that, I guess, would technically be called Best Practices in Adult Literacy Technology, but my working title is The Oh Wow Report. It is my chosen activity for the new PA Teacher Competencies pilot in which I am participating. This is not a scientific project. I am collecting anecdotal "brags" from the field of adult literacy and technology. These could be big projects that you think deserve a mention or maybe just really effective or exciting activities that you or a colleague designed. Your comments could be about technology planning and centers, staff development, instruction, advocacy, anything. I have the Captured Wisdom CD already. That project was kind of a Oh Wow itself, I think. Some other Oh Wows for me are: David Rosen's terrific Literacy List and the work he does moderating the NLA Listserv. The outstanding "Teachers, Technology and Leadership Institute that Emily Hacker coordinated in 1999. What a great learning experience that was for me! The model Computer Center we toured in Minneapolis during the ALT Conference there. (Can't remember the name right now. Anyone?) The excellent job the West Branch Technology Center is doing in administering Eastern LINCS. Also their comprehensive library of links for teachers on ABLE Net. The wonderful support and philosophy my at own agency, GPLC, that has enabled me to offer a solid computer skills curriculum to not only our enrolled learners, but to the entire community. Adults of all types can take any four-week computer skills course for $20 if they're working, $10 if they're not. Enrolled learners and volunteers pay nothing. The PBS Literacy website, including WES and GED. This is a real move forward for our field! That's my starter list. What would you add to it? Please post your Oh Wows to the listserv, or to me directly ABLEArlene@aol.com Thanks for your help, Arlene
