The first is a new interactive web-based series from PBS' award-winning documentary film affiliate, Point of View (POV). Borders is a new Web-only series on PBS Online located at http://www.pbs.org/pov/borders. The series asks about the borders in our lives, both literal and metaphysical. Produced by P.O.V. Interactive, P.O.V.'s award-winning Web department, the series is a showcase for interactive storytelling. The first episode in the series will run for ten weeks concentrating on 'migration' as an overall theme. The site is compelling and professional, and the interactive features can be used as a spring- board for discussion and writing activities. The LAC has also put several comprehensive annotated Web-based resource lists on-line. They are accessible from our home-page under "Resources" at "Instructional Technology." The first, developed for Hispanic Heritage Month, is a list of web-based resources for Spanish-speaking students and can be found at: http://www.lacnyc.org/resources/instructional.htm This list includes "Resources on Latino and Community Issues," "Websites in Spanish," "Books in Spanish," "Information about Bilingualism and Language Diversity," "English Language Learning Activities on the Web," Educational Materials, Teaching Ideas, and Classroom Connections." Also accessible from http://www.lacnyc.org/resources/instructional.htm is information about evaluating websites and selecting software for your program. Another resource of note is an annotated list of Web-based EL/Civics resources for the ESOL classroom and can be found at http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/lacit/esolresources.html This list includes learning resources, skills, drills and quizzes, on-line periodicals, tutorials, and reading and writing support, as well as professional development resources. We hope that you will find these resources useful. -- Marguerite Lukes Director of Instructional Technology Literacy Assistance Center 32 Broadway, 10th floor New York, NY 10004 tel: 212.803.3322 fax: 212.785.3685 mlukes@lacnyc.org http://www.lacnyc.org
