I know a person who successfully used Dragon NaturallySpeaking (now
distributed by Broderbund, I believe) for exactly the purpose you describe
below. The accuracy rate is about 95% after a 15-minute startup training
session but you can easily increase that to 98%+ if you continue to train
the programme properly.

Hi,

I need to find a way to transcribe a lot tape recorded data (research
project). I was thinking that if I used a speech recognition programme it
would make it go a little faster than regular typing.

I was looking for Mac software (OS 9) and there isn't very much out there. I
basically only found two programmes: iListen and Via Voice.

Does anyone have any firsthand experience with either of these programmes?
If so, what has been your accuracy rate? Was it worth it to use or more
hassle than necessary? Or do you have a better way to get tapes transcribed?

thanks,
Catherine
