I've used Pinnacle Studio DV for a few years. It works very much like iMovie
and offeres a lot of features. Reviews at the CNET site for the current
version have been bad, but I did the upgrade to Studio 9 and have been very
pleased with it. With any video editing you need a very robust platform,
with lots of memory and a fast, large hard drive. 7200rpm is the minimum for
hard drive speed and I'd make sure that my hard drives were at least 100gb
for a class setting...actually, I'd look at 200 gb. While you might get away
with 512mb of RAM, I'd ssy at least 1gb of memory would be a good minimum to
shoot for.
Roxio Video Creator was the package that CNET gave their recommended stamp
to. I have it in an earlier version that didn't offer the same features as
Studio DV. It appears that both have very similar capabilities now. The
previous version was easier to make DVD menus than Studio DV.
I have not used either package with students. I have used iMovie with high
school students and found I could get them up and running in about 10
minutes; I believe the same would be true of either the Roxio or Studio DV.

Hi, I am looking for a good, user friendly, video editing software for the
pc. I teach computer skills to adult learners and I maintain our web site.
We are purchasing digital video equipment with the hope of having our
students record their stories on video & publish them on our web site.
However, we only have pc computers and I am finding that most of the
recommended editing software is for Mac. Has anyone used a good pc editing
program and have a recommendation? Thanks, Jana
