That's why I subscribe to this listserve - to share ideas for affordable and effective solutions, not to boycott them, especially when I didn't pay a dime to use it. I promote Yahoo email in my low-literacy curriculum because as a portal, it is a great primer for the most common uses of the internet. Now regarding the email service... I tried this software but could not get the pictures to show up at first. NOTE: I realized that my POP-UP STOPPER had BLOCKED your instructions. After several attempts, I realized my problem and turned off the software. Basically, while typing, I should click on the matching word if it shows up on the right, then I get a picture. Without the pop-up instructions, it's not very intuitive to select from a list a word that I just typed elsewhere and click on it. Also, the instructions on the email (the recipient gets a link, not the email with pictures) seem to be written in much more advanced English than the recipient might have. What if one limited-English learner writes to another? I thought the home page and instuctions were EXTREMELY easy to read and follow. Cudos for that, which is often overlooked by the best of us. Large and colorful type fonts on the page was a smart idea. The pages open quickly, which is helpful for those with a dialup service. Beehive.org has a great low literacy site with email service but it can be very slow sometimes. I've enclosed the sample I sent to myself below. By the way, in the sentence "Monday was a busy day" has a picture for "busy" where a boy sitting on a toilet seat versus sitting on a chair.
