Barry,
I'm encouraged by your description of lessons centered
around the use of "productivity" software. The process
you describe seems to be both seamless and
learner-appropriate.
One of the questions that came up in this study was
whether or not you could have technology integration
without using the Internet. What are your thoughts on
that? How about others?

While I have had Internet access in my room for myself for quite some
time, the student computers were not on the network until just a few
months ago, so I developed all of my student exercises to be
non-internet based and I consider the use of technology to be completely
integrated into my daily curriculum. The question as posed misses the
point somewhat. One can have students surf the web without any
integration into the curriculum whatsoever ("Here's the lab, use the
Internet for 45 minutes, and I'll be sitting over at the teacher's desk
reading my email"). Several list members have suggested the use of cell
phones in the classroom. That's a hot new technology. If I don't use
cell phones at all (in fact we instruct our students to turn them off
when they enter the classroom because the ringtones and their subsequent
conversations are so disruptive), does that mean I no longer integrate
technology in my class?
A more meaningful way to pose the question might be "To what extent is
the technology that you have available and choose to use, be it an
overhead projector, a CD player, a magnetic card reader, or a computer
with or without Internet access, integrated into the daily activities of
a class, so that students find it to be completely natural (and are
able) to use any or all of them to advance their acquisition of the
target language?"
