hi literacy colleagues -
for those who might be interested, i've written an article
explaining how the free skype phone service can be used to interview
people. the audio from the interview can be captured to hard drive,
edited and then placed on the web.
this might be a beneficial tool to spotlight the work being done in
the literacy field. there is nothing more powerful than the human
voice telling real life anecdotes about the progress adult learners
are making.
this technique might also be used to create literacy podcasts for
your area.
the article can be found on the web at
http://www.his.com/pshapiro/usingskype.html
included in the article is a link to a quicktime from an
interview i did with a colleague in trinidad and tobago. i
was a bit lucky in that the audio quality in that interview is
crystal clear. that's not always the case with skype.

btw, it would be great to see more literacy activists on the new Digital
Divide Network web site. http://www.digitaldivide.net i'm a volunteer
supporter of that site. site registration is free.
currently this site has 6,600 registered members from 115 countries. for
the site to be "newsworthy," it needs to boost its membership numbers to
more than 10,000. thanks for helping make that happen.
