The research showed that the treatment group students improved their reading and vocabulary scores by 10.5 to 13% compared to the control group. Although the study was performed was with middle school students, Merit Software is commonly used by teachers to help ABE, GED and ESL students. To my knowledge this is the only peer-reviewed, control v treatment group, research to have been published on the matter of improving reading comprehension with any type of student. Here is a link to information about the study http://www.meritsoftware.com/news/jrte.html.
