Daphne,

I think this issue depends on whether or not one has a specific reason for 
teaching gender separate classes.  I don't think either way should be a 
given, .  Any discussion of "women's particular problems" makes me see red 
and get itchy all over and it isn't chicken pox.  Open minds and open 
assumptions.

Team teaching where there is mutual respect between both teachers, and this 
relationship can be modeled for students, could be very sound.
